Kakkoii Club continues it’s journey with the Japanese language! Memrise is a fantastic e-learning tool but we did struggle with getting our heads around Hiragana & Katakana! Without becoming disheartened, we began to search for an additional tool and luckily we didn’t have to look too far!
We located Dr Moku on the Appstore (also available on Android) and there’s even a ‘lite’ version you can download for free to get you started! (We recommend downloading the bundle of Dr Moku’s Hiragana & Katakana for £5.99, as this would cost almost £8 if bought separately.)
The app itself is very user friendly and by combining the sound with an image that might seem a little wacky at times (but trust us, it works!) you’ll be surprised how many you’ll remember in such a short space of time!
Once you’ve studied all the flashcards (there’s also a quick reference sheet if you forget or need a reminder) there’s a quiz which helps to reinforce your understanding. There’s no time limit so you won’t feel rushed and there’s always the challenge of beating your last score.
This approach has made understanding and remembering Hiragana more fun and we’re looking forward to moving on to Dr Moku’s Katakana in the coming weeks!
