I was inspired to write this blog after reading posts on Twitter relating to the recent #TwitchLDN community meet up. The positive post-event comments from those that had a great time despite their initial nervousness and social anxiety was inspiring and I also wanted to add tips that have helped me over the years.
At the time of writing, we’re just under two weeks away until the HYPER JAPAN Festival kicks off on Friday 13th July! If your anxiety is making you think twice about attending the event (or maybe has stopped you in the past), I hope the below will assist you and ensure you enjoy all the festivities and have a fantastic time, no matter which aspect of the HYPER JAPAN Festival takes your fancy!
Break down the journey into smaller chunks, instead of thinking of A-B. Imagine the walk from your home to the train station as part 1, the train journey as part 2, taking the tube / overground as part 3 etc. By managing the journey into smaller segments, this will help to reduce the stress of travel and and you can ‘tick’ each step off in your mind. You could book your train tickets in advance if you prefer but it’s always good to plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to reach the venue.
With so much to see and do at the HYPER JAPAN Festival, take a look at the full weekends schedule and plan your visit in advance. The set times for each of the live acts are now live on the HYPER JAPAN website and you don’t want to miss your ‘must see’ act!! You might not be able to cover everything on your list during the day but this can act as a great starting point upon arrival at the venue.
With the recent hot weather (we really shouldn’t complain should we?!) it’s going to be at least 25 degrees over the HYPER JAPAN Festival weekend, make sure your dress appropriately for the hot weather and always have a bottle of water on you to stay hydrated. If you do feel unwell during your visit, ask a member of staff to guide you to the on-site First Aid area.
Everyone you see at the HYPER JAPAN Festival is just as passionate about Japan and the culture as you are! The cosplay is always incredible and the excitement and buzz before and during the live performances really makes the event for me! I’ve met many fantastic and passionate music fans at the HYPER JAPAN Festival and it’s a great chance to meet like minded people and make new friends!
- The night before.
With so much fun, live performances, incredible food and a vast amount of awesome exhibitors awaiting you, it’s a good idea to get your things ready the night before so you can have a restful sleep and wake up recharged and ready for the event! Pack your bag with any essentials (including spending money for those figures you’ve been waiting to buy!!), have your event ticket printed and any travel documents or travel times written down and ready to go! If you’re meeting with friends, make sure you all know the meeting time and place and have a fantastic time!
Please feel free to share your tips in the comments below!
